2003 MasterCard Memorial Cup Champion Kitchener Rangers posted a 6-3 win over the Hull Olympiques in Quebec City. The Rangers' victory was their first Memorial Cup title in 21 years and the win culminated a success nine days in May for the Ontario Hockey League Champions.

Kitchener got out to an early start in the Championship final as Andre Benoit scored at the 1:45 mark of the first period and Gregory Campbell followed with his first goal of the tournament as he tipped in a Benoit point shot to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead with just 3:32 played in the game. Campbell scored on the Rangers' first power play of the hockey game. Kitchener controlled the first period as they fired nine shots at Eric Lafrance in the Olympiques' net while Rangers' goaltender Scott Dickie was called on to make just four saves.

Rookie Evan McGrath, with his first of two goals in the game, increased Kitchener's lead to 3-0 as he scored a power play goal just 1:26 into the second frame. The two teams would trade six goals in the second period with the Rangers emerging with a 5-3 lead after forty minutes of play. Mathieu Brunelle scored a power play goal for Hull at 7:40 to make the score 3-1 and with six minutes left to play in the period the flurry started with four goals being scored in 4:37. George Halkidis started things at 14:01 to restore Kitchener's lead to three goals but the Olympiques' power play worked again as Nick Fugere made the score 4-2 just 46 seconds after the Halkidis goal. McGrath would score again giving the Rangers a 5-2 lead at 17:20 but Hull's power play would respond again as Doug O'Brien scored the Olympiques' third power play goal of the period at 18:38 to make the score 5-3 after two periods of play.

Kitchener controlled the third period out shooting Hull 13-8 and David Clarkson's unassisted goal with 2:38 left to play sealed the victory for the Rangers.

Kitchener was 2 for 8 on the power play while Hull scored all three of their goals on the power play as they also had eight man advantage situations. The Rangers out shot the Olympiques 30 to 25 on the game.

The last Memorial Cup win for the Rangers was in 1982 when they defeated the Sherbrooke Castors 7-4 in the final game in the tournament that was played in Hull. For Kitchener the 2003 Memorial Cup was the fifth time that they had qualified for the Canadian Hockey League championship tournament and each time they have appeared in the championship final.
